SEVERE TURN
Milan: Bottega Veneta has always been seriously chic, but this season Tomas Maier took the label one step closer to severity with a dark presentation of tailored suiting and dramatically rich eveningwear. Buttoned all the way to the neck, nipped waist jackets and double-breasted coats created a no nonsense atmosphere paired with pencil skirts and skinny cropped trousers, looks embellished only by classic jeweled brooches or tonal velvet embroidery. Day dresses were slightly more relaxed, moving away from black and navy into a brief series of plum and tangerine prints scattered with sequin embroidery or subtle peplum hems. After this brief respite, Maier swiftly plunged back into moody glamour for night, showing black velvet sheaths cut into graphic faux-nude silhouette motifs, floor-length bustier tank gowns and aggressively shredded chiffon skirts.—Nina Stotler
