INTO THE WOODS
Paris: Basil Soda conjured elegant forest nymphs for his couture collection. The woodsy palette of moss green, ochre and deep coral had a more autumnal feel than the darker, moodier collections of the season. Silhouettes, slinky or frothy, were constructed of sheer layers, and silky fringe, beading or overlaid “leaves” provided a bit of coverage. Sometimes all three embellishments combined for an opulent yet organic effect, almost as if the naked models had collected bits and pieces to cover themselves with. A series of white and metallic gold gowns incorporated the same effects, but felt a bit more traditional. —Anna Jane Davis
