FRESH LUXURY
New York: Albino D’Amato succeeded in freshening his aesthetic this season with a collection that reached out to a younger audience. Switching gears from his sporty Spring direction, the designer represented a more pulled-together muse interested in a carefree luxury. With this in mind, D’Amato introduced both fur-trimmed coats and walking shorts, as well as brocade skirt suits and silk peplum tops. Substantial fabrics and elegant draping resulted in a pervasive richness, but accessories like edgy cuff bracelets and slim lace-up loafers in lieu of heels penetrated the collection’s restrained tone. Albino would have also benefited from a punchier color palette instead of muddy coco, stone and navy, tones which seemed morose combined with the more progressive silhouettes.—Nina Stotler
