POSEIDON’S DAUGHTER
Milan: Where S/S 13 Gucci is bright and brash, Alberta Ferretti’s new season is elegant and ethereal, comprised of a wafting series of sheer chiffon dresses encrusted with intricate beading. With patterns mimicking coral and underwater fauna, these cream and champagne shifts were tailor made for the most sophisticated cocktail hour, as were round bags spiked like a high-end puffer fish. Later on the presentation expanded into underwater blues and greens for items that could have been straight from the closet of Poseidon’s daughter—shiny satin shorts, flowing transparent tunics layered over lace camisoles and shimmering cropped trousers. In case the theme was not evident enough, Ferretti draped her finale of sinuous gowns in sequined nets, as if she hadn’t already captured the audience hook, line and sinker.—Nina Stotler
