PARIS…Several editors, not to mention a certain Ms Dita von Teese were left out in the cold after arriving late at the very-much-on-time Louis Vuitton show. Marc Jacobs’ response as to the theme of the show was, “We just worked with shapes. Darts, folds, and pleats. I don’t like to use these words because they sound pretentious, but if you like, last season was painterly, and this season is sculptural.” The influence of last season’s seismic shape shift at Balenciaga was as apparent here as it was at YSL earlier in the week. The pared-down silhouettes were a structured and mostly minimal affair of grays, dusty blues, and mint greens that sat away from the body in shapes that were reminiscent of the ’80s. The handbags were a far cry from the brightly colored Richard Prince versions from last season. All in all it was a subdued affair, perhaps a palette cleanser as this tumultuous period in time comes to a close.
