Graphic Inspiration – Los Angeles, Continued

The Stylesight Graphics team is on their second leg of a West Coast U.S. trip and have traveled on to Las Vegas for the Magic trade show. On our first day here we’ve already visited the Capsule show, a smaller more directional offshoot of Magic. Keep your eye out for our detailed Vegas trade show reports that will be live in the next week or so.

The second part of our Los Angeles visit was a good mix of vintage, art and directional apparel graphics so we thought we’d share.

Rin Tinakas Inspiration LA

Our first stop last Friday was Rin Tinaka’s Inspiration L.A. vintage show aboard the Queen Mary. This event is a showcase of the top vintage vendors selected by Rin Tinaka, a vintage guru, so it’s a great one-stop shop for high quality antique T-shirts and memorabilia. Key graphic highlights were the vintage biker graphic theme that seemed to be everywhere at the show. A detail show round-up is soon to follow on the site.

The standout apparel highlight from the L.A. part of the trip had to be Free City on North Highland Ave. Great visual merchandising, super strong graphics… this is a real visual gem that’s not to be missed if you’re in L.A.

This season’s collection is a mix of hobo hippy message graphics twisted with an outdoor traveler aesthetic. Great use of bright color mixes and hand crafted looks gave this store the edge over all the others we visited while in L.A.

AKIO

L.A. has an abundance of great art galleries that showcase exciting and directional up-and-coming artists. In L.A. we managed to visit some very inspiring galleries. A highlight was the MK Gallery on South La Brea Avenue, which was showing the work of Tara Mcphersonm Deedee Cheriel, Lindsey Way and AIKO.

We also found time to visit the historical downtown theatre district, home to a notable collection of grand old motion picture palaces, most of which date back to the 1920s and 1930s. This area is a great place to step back in time and view some amazing exteriors and forgotten signage.
