After last week’s daily updates from Levi’s New York events, we’re handing over to Las Vegas for all the denim news the trade shows had to offer.
First off was Capsule, which was housed in the underbelly of the Sands Expo this season- a thankful relief from those load carpets of previous shows! The atmosphere was relaxed but buzzing and we’ve selected a few highlights below:
The Capsule show is always a hotbed of emerging small labels and talent and this season was no exception. Denim industry name, Rikke Korff (the amazing design force behind the Levi’s 3D Engineered jean, the Levi’s Red label and LVC, no less) launched her Denim brand last season named Skargorn. The F/W 12 collection however is the official and full launch with 6 fits for guys and 4 for girls, the focus is on a tough and dark Skandinavien edge with neo-vintage laundries that nod to authentic denim but are re-worked with an industrial attitude. The brand has been making great waves so far in both Europe and the U.S.
We also re-visited our total favorite Japanese brand, Remi Relief who showed embroidered and beaded denim shirtings, cosy quilted vests and the classic trucker jacket re-worked in suede- a hot trend we’re seeing all over runway and trade shows right now.
Friend of the denim team at Stylesight and all-round ‘denim dude’ of the world, Greg Chapman presented his HW Carter workwear brand at the show. The denim line taps into the 1930′s workwear archival style thats enjoying a resurgence of late but what sets this brand appart from the pack is the fantastic attention to detail, denim qualities and authentic deadstock appeal- amazing work Greg!
In other denim news, West-Coast prepster denim heads, Riviera Club have teamed up with Lucky Brand for a F/W 12 collaboration. They bring their 1950′s tourist look and hand-crafted attitude to the denim super-brand. Washes are authentic and beautifully aged and details include plaid linings and premium Cone selvedge.
At Project we were so inundated with new brands, denim gossip and news that we thought we’d bring you just one trend from the show, as a taster for the monster report we’re currently working on for the site. Coatings and finishings were top priority for many women’s denim brands and we picked out some of our favorites above. Ksubi launched our very favorite hologram jean (top middle) and we were excited to see the much anticipated Manish Arora x Notify jeans in the flesh also working the hologram look (Bottom middle) Destroyed foil was a key look from both Bleulab (bottom right) and Ksubi (top right) and the winter move-on to the floral print jean, the coated floral! (From Sold Middle left and Bleulab Bottom left) Stay tuned for our full report coming soon on the site, its going to be great.
