Day one of Europe’s most pivotal tradeshow, Bread and Butter, produced as much traffic and buzz as ever to Berlin’s Templehof airport, as buyers brands and press from all over Europe congregated for the F/W 12 event. Mega-brands such as Scotch and Soda, G-Star and Cheap Monday showed full collections for men, women, young men and juniors while indie and specialty lines such as Carin Wester and RM Williams offered carefully edited selections of womenwear, footwear and accessories. Key colors ran the gamut from oxblood, aubergine and mustard to soft seafoam and salmon while pieced leather jackets, chelsea boots and colorblocked knits emerged as key items.
For men, retro hiking boots continue their trend ascent, as even unexpected makers like Dr. Martens jump in the alpine game. In apparel, puffer vests and dressy waistcoats have had moments recently, but the next big item for all things gilet is surely the rugged mid-weight camp vest, which combines the sporty warmth and tailored fit of its trend predecessors. Tough, retro-tech details like leather trim or pull straps and buckles are popping up on Men’s apparel items ranging from outerwear to trousers.
Stay tuned as we unfold our in-depth coverage of apparel, footwear, accessories, denim, and graphics in the coming weeks.
