Revelers were transported to the Roaring 20s on Governors Island last weekend at the second installment of the 7th Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party in New York City. The two-day event saw thousands of guests in period garb enjoying ’78 records and live music by Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra, along with dance performances, a motorcar exhibition, Charleston contests and vintage clothing vendors.
Parasols and picnic baskets were common accessories for enjoying the picture-perfect weather and St. Germain cocktails. Men donned rolled-up trousers, striped suspenders, and seersucker suits while ladies opted for sheath dresses, sheer stockings and wool cloche hats.
The event felt all the more relevant this year – the film world is eagerly awaiting Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby. And after several runway seasons of Art Deco-inspired collections, the twenties trend looks poised to continue its influence.
