David Bowie, always an intriguing and inspirational character, lately seems to be having a fashion moment. His androgynous style is impacting everything from recent magazine editorials featuring Daphne Guinness and Tilda Swinton to entire collections emulating his style. Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen showed her C/R 13 collection of flared suits and glitzy metallics inspired the 1970s Ziggy Stardust days, and S/S 13 Jean Paul Guiltier drew from the same era, creating a colorful knit jumpsuit that recalled Bowie’s iconic look by Kansai Yamamoto (even the wigs are a direct reference). Most recently, Preen’s Pre-Fall 13 collection was inspired by Bowie’s 1983 film, The Hunger. The Victoria and Albert Museum is opening a retrospective, “David Bowie is,” March 23rd through July 28th which will include costumes, photography, films, set design and much more. Finally, after a 10 year silence, Bowie is released a new single, “Where Are We Now,” from his new album, “The Next Day,” to be released in March. We are huge fans of David Bowie at Stylesight, and celebrated his unique look in August’s Glam Rock Trend Tracker; we’re looking forward to seeing more interpretations of this brilliant fashion chameleon.
