ACTIVE INSPIRATION: Jayme Lemperle

Recently featured on VICE, Jayme Lemperle is a young artist that has been prolific and beloved in the skateboarding realm since he was in his teens. The Active Team got a chance to catch up with the witty illustrator recently, to hear about his upcoming projects and humble beginnings.  As a self-proclaimed misfit growing up, Jayme spent his time in class doodling instead of taking notes, which led him to focus on and pursue art as a career. Early on, his doodles caught the attention of fellow skateboarders (including Tyler the Creator!) like Rip n Dip owner Ryan O’Connor. Rip n Dip is Lemperle’s biggest undertaking where he assists O’Connor in art direction and creates drawings and designs featured on T-Shirts, sweatshirts, hats, stickers and decks.

An upcoming project to look out for is a line of Finnish inspired graphics featuring reindeer illustrations for Perus, a Finnish skateboarding company. In the meantime you can keep up with Jayme on Stale Bagel, his personal blog where he updates daily with drawings that dissect the meanings of common phrases and words and depicts them in clever and humorous ways. Also, don’t forget to check out the April 2013 issue of Thrasher Magazine for a Canvas spotlight on the artist.

Here’s an exclusive illustration that Jayme drew up just for us!

Thanks again to Jayme for his time to chat with us and allowing us to take a dip into his world of inspiring artwork!
