Salvatore Ferragamo F/W 2013

MODA MOD
Milan: The Mod 1960s has served as a key inspiration for designers over the past few seasons, and though the era’s influence is beginning to wane, it is still in the zeitgeist. For fall, Salvatore Ferragamo designer Massimiliano Giornetti returned to Mod, but his take on the trend was darker and more sophisticated. With a palette of black, rich navy, charcoal, and stark white, Giornetti communicated a sense of seriousness. It seemed he was distancing himself from the more colorful and girlish interpretations of Mod from seasons past. The looks were certainly grown-up, with minimal embellishment, save for some contrast panels and a cutout or two. They were Mod at its most contemporary and pared-down. The double-breasted coats, short A-line skirts, and fine-gauge turtlenecks are sure to be a hit, and luxe materials, such as glossy haircalf, lustrous satin, and bonded leather will resonate with label’s well-heeled clientele.  –Joanna Manganaro
