As the city prepares for the ING New York City Marathon, it’s only fitting that New Balance, one of the biggest names in running, held an intimate party showcasing new goods to a handpicked group of media for the Spring/Summer 2012 season. The Active Team had the pleasure of checking out the brand’s wide array of footwear in a private penthouse apartment in Flatiron District of NYC that had absolutely jaw dropping views and stellar interiors. Over the past year, New Balance has really stepped up its game when it comes to throwing events. We’ve been invited to several and some have even had us testing out the product while working out with Crunch Fitness Trainers!
This time around, the preview included a “taste” of Spring updates and brand new models for the sectors of Training, Apparel, Wellness and Running along with its NewSKY, and Minimus collections. Gourmet chefs manned food stations and created unique savory and sweet confections for each particular category all around the apartment. It was quite a sight to see the vast New Balance selections specifically “paired up” with foods that would fall in line with the aesthetic of a particular style.
New Balance’s collaboration with celebrity fitness expert Harley Pasternak will treat athletes in training with the 997s in his choice colorways.
The Minimus Trail continues to offer a natural ride on a Vibram heel, and the Minimus Road updates its sole for Spring by adding protection to contact points and carving out excess rubber.
Welded seams not only reduce chaffing, they also cut back on excess and bulk, offering added value to functional running and performance apparel. This was cleverly suggested, as the “barely-there” garments hung alongside thinly sliced veggies to highlight the breathable, lightweight nature of the collection.
The repurposed NewSKY collection expands, mixing textures of recycled materials for a good conscience lifestyle shoe.
