Louis Vuitton Maroquinaris Zoologicae Showcase

Easing back into the world of accessories for 2012 the images of the Louis Vuitton ‘Maroquinaris Zoologicae’ animals created by British artist Billie Achilleos are providing a charming distraction on a number of blogs at the moment.

The amazing creatures collectively named the ‘Maroquinaris Zoologicae’ were initially created by Achilleos for the 100th anniversary of the house’s small leather goods collection, and were recently used in the Holiday window display for the Omotesando Tokyo flagship store.

We first came across the unique re-interpretations of the wallets, cases and key chains at the Louis Vuitton F/W 11 press day and were intrigued by the amazing use of materials.

Using materials, design details and composition Achilleos channeled the characteristics of the luxury accessories via each animal.

“Each animal highlights an element in the design of the products. The armadillo was to highlight the soft yet durable quality of the leather. The chameleon displays the variety of colour. The grasshopper is constructed from products with zips and poppers that make satisfying noises like that of the musically gifted insect.”

The collection is made up of 29 creatures, from the insect, crustacean, bird and animal kingdoms, and will be going on tour as an exhibition, internationally, throughout 2012.
